MAX Chapter 1

MAX Chapter 1 The Byro Megacorp's eastern control tower loomed high in the sky, piercing the smog halo that made the city constantly overcast and dimly lit. Those who worked there were in charge of the media. Everyone knew the propaganda machine that was the Byro Megacorp had long controlled the flow of information and suppressed any news of the rebel uprising from the public, instead filling the airwaves with so called entertainment , distractions from the oppressive state, encouraging the apathetic populous to be less engaged and less interested in what was really happening. The front gate was guarded lightly for such an important building, the first 30 floors housed the actual entertainment division, some of the brightest and most creative minds in charge of writing and distributing average dribble, always promoting trust in the father corporation and loyalty to the state. They had been in power for as long as anyone could remember, at least 3 generations, maybe more. History had been severely limited and the propaganda has been slowly transmitting false information into the minds of its citizens the entire time. The newest campaign was to encourage and promote the upgrade. The operation was quick and besides the small microchip on the left temple it was barely noticeable. The upgrade connected one to the information database and allowed digital content to be streamed immediately to the users self, providing advertisements and virtual simulations alongside the corporations regularly scheduled programming. What they didn't know was that it was a two way street, the corporation now had access to the users brain and could program what it wished. The Byro army had a similar operation for its military version of the upgrade that linked all soldiers to the grid and made silent and deadly assassins out of the volunteers now become death machines, almost completely hollow shells of the people they once were. The tall satellites that broadcast the signal for the users stood tall above the media division , above the secret agenda floors of 30-89, above even the rumored 90th floor, on the roof of the tower. "The roof is Almost impossible to get to by air, the cannons would spot and annihilate any intruders of the air space on sight. It has to be a direct assault on the tower. a small team of 5 or 6 would need to some how sneak into the building ,reach the roof and destroy the satellites.this would deactivate the upgrade chip and allow for time to find out which tower has the servers needed to deactivate the program for good." He crossed his arms and smirked confidently. The plan was air tight. "You're forgetting one thing Max,"chided the elderly man entering the corridor, his beard and long hair the color of ash, he limped slightly as he walked. "And what's that exactly?"asked Max, His arms still crossed. "That you are far too valuable to lead this mission." He replied Max tensed his face in frustration, he knew it was true, all his life he was trained in the ways of the ancient kelmarian , his blood was that of this sacred race of old. He could wield the magic of the earth and read scrolls of power and enchanted books. The rebel army used his talents to further the war effort , but Max himself was a treasure hunter. They hunted the relics of time and space to harvest the magical powers of the amulets and tomes. Slowly Max was becoming more powerful. He was 5 times quicker than most men, could blend into his surroundings , becoming almost invisible , and had the strength of 3 men. "I'm sick of just waiting here and hunting , I want to fight, I'm stronger than you think..." Reazu smiled a small smile. "Oh I know you are strong Max, even now Byro Ted or any of the Byro Tachi could crush you, you are too important, it's too risky. Javus will go in your stead. He knows the tower and is almost as quick as you."
